  • “It is a pleasure to be in Arizona… I have come here to see the Grand Canyon of Arizona, because in that canyon Arizona has a natural wonder, which, so far as I know, is in kind absolutely unparalleled throughout the rest of the world. I shall not attempt to describe it, because I cannot. I could not choose words that would convey or that could convey to any outsider what that canyon is. I want to ask you to do one thing in connection with it in your own interest, and in the interest of the country — to keep this great wonder of nature as it now is. I was delighted to learn of the wisdom of the Santa Fe railroad people in deciding not to build their hotel on the brink of the canyon. I hope you will not have a building of any kind, not a summer cottage, a hotel or anything else to mar the wonderful grandeur, the sublimity, the loneliness and beauty of the canyon. Leave it as it is. Man cannot improve on it; not a bit. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it. What you can do is to keep it for your children and your children’s children and for all who come after you, as one of the great sights which every American, if he can travel at all, should see.” (Theodore Roosevelt, 1908) #grandcanyon #tripofalifetime #teddyroosevelt #americathebeautiful

  • Because therapists know that at first, each patient is a simply a snapshot, a person captured in a particular moment. It’s like a photo of you taken from an unfortunate angle and with a sour expression on your face. There might also be a photo in which you’re glowing, caught opening a present or mid-laugh with a lover. Both are you in that fraction of time, and neither is you in your entirety. ~Lori Gottlieb.

  • One month ago, I (we) did something I never thought I would (or could) do. Along with my hiking family, we hiked the #grandcanyon - all the way down to the Colorado River and all the way back up. 9.5 hours. 19.5 miles. 4300ft of elevation gain. It was one of the most challenging and exhilarating things I’ve ever done. And the ultimate🖕🏼to turning 40 this year😏

  • So let’s talk about travel fails... . We get to travel a lot. And it’s awesome. But trip planning is hard. Sometimes you screw stuff up. Like the time we tried to visit a lavender farm the day after it was harvested. The time we tried to see the cat sanctuary in Kanab only to find out it closed 2 hours before we got there. Being in Houston for 1 day, and not realizing Brene Brown was doing a book signing there that day. And maybe my biggest travel fail- not being able to see the statue of David in Florence because the museum was closed the day I planned to go🤦🏻‍♀️. . So I was almost not surprised when I waited until we were actually en route to the #sevenmagicmountains to look at the website- to find out that the exhibit was closed for updates. And it might not be around much longer. 😬It wasn’t that far of a drive, so we decided to see how close we could get. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 the magic travel fairies must have been with us that day- it was still open! #onelesstravelfail
